Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. In the early age of five, her father was appointed as her curator at the Strawberry Mansion Section. Her family moved later into this iconic building. She graduated in 2005 of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was the vocal music instructor. Sullivan began singing in the children's chorus as a contralto, and then she joined the adult chorus a couple of years further on. Sullivan had limited exposure to secular music. She recalls when she was just 11 years old when a person wanted her to sing as a soloist in church. But, she wasn't fully ready. At that time, McDonald's held a contest with children from large cities. I was selected to perform "Accept What God Allows" on The show Showtime at the Apollo. And the audience was very supportive. When she was 13 years old, she performed alongside Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was first signed to Jive Records at the age 15. She was signed to Jive Records in the year fifteen. She was the producer of an entire album, but the album didn't get released. Sullivan was then dropped from the label. Missy Elliott was her producer for some tracks from the album she released as her first. Among them "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland that Elliott created and produced, was her favorite song.
